Gate Layering is a project focused on the revitalization and restoration of the area surrounding Porta Portese.
Gate acts as the alter ego of the city gate, the historic entrance to ancient Rome. Crossing this threshold marks a shift in the urban spatial experience.
Layering, understood as the stratification of diverse spatial elements, was a guiding principle in both the analytical and design development stages.

The notions of rule, urban grid, module, and their subversion are materialized within the architectural composition of this project.

Two main architectural elements shape the project: the main volume, an imposing parallelepiped, and the smaller units, which reference the "folies." The Folies accommodate student residences, housing, and common areas. Only the third typology, a tower located near the ancient Aurelian Walls as a tribute to their historic forms, does not contain housing, serving solely a recreational function.
